Race Reports
Magic Mile Stormont Estate Friday 30th September
Well done all the lads who ran the Magic Mile on Friday 30th September . The conditions were awful with heavy rain failling all evening but it would take more than that to put us Albertville lads off . As it turned out the five runners who raced all won prizes in their respective categories , so great effort lads and lets see more of the same . 2nd over all David Stevenson - 1st under 18 Glenn Mcwen - 1st over 45 Danny Magill - 1st over 50 Davy Allen - 1st over 55 Billy Roberts .
Masters Cross Country Queens University Belfast Saturday 22nd October
The first race of the day was the under 16 (4k) and running his first XC race for the club was young Glenn McEwen and what a great race it turned out to be . Glenn and Mckibbon from Dromore broke away from the rest of the field about the half way stage and it continued to be nip and tuck right up to the last 400 metres . It was then on a slightly down hill stretch that Glenn made a decisive move and got about 20 metres on Mikibbon which he held onto to cross the line in first place . Great run from young Glenn and it was great to see the Albertville Colours to the fore once again !
Davy Allen had a steady run in the over 50 category coming 9th but missing out on team selection for the UK and Ireland XC International .
McConnell Shield Cross Country Ballyclare Saturday 12th November
On another mild autumn day perfect for XC running young Glenn McEwan continued to show good form over the grass with an excellent 2nd place finish in the under 16 age group . In what proved to be a fast competitive race , Conal McCambridge from North Belfast Harriers broke away from the rest of the field at the end of the first lap , to leave a three man race for second between Glenn , Cormac Glenn ST Killians and Jamie McMeecan North Down . The three were still togehter coming into the final 400m when Glenn made his move to open up a 10metre gap which he held to cross the line in a well deserved silver medal place . Keep the good work up Glenn !!!
IN the 5 mile Senior and Vets race Davy Allen was the clubs only representative . Although not as racing fit as he would like to be he managed to finish in 45th place over all and 8th in the over 55 age group .
